National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO): Sixth Conference (November 12-14, 2015) in Portland, Oregon. As one of only four sessions selected, Linda will be leading a presentation of seven composers from the Independent Music Publishers Cooperative. The lecture is called Music to Change the World: Composers Speak on Inspiration, and includes composers' perspectives on choosing a text, setting, and instrumentation, and their inspiration for creating a work. Concrete examples of how the author's text, the composer, singers and audience unite to become a sounding board for these thoughts and ideas.
WORLD PREMIERE: The Prayer Ascending (July 18th, 2015) The Prayer Ascending, a new work for clarinet, viola and piano, received its world premiere at Luther College in Decorah IA. Lori Baruth (Cl.), Kirsti Petraborg (Vla.), and Cheryl Lemmons (Pno.), performing,Lutheran Summer Music Festival Sunday.
RADIO BROADCAST: Anne Frank: A Living Voice (June 12th, 2015) On what would have been Anne Frank's 86th birthday, June 12th, Anne Frank: A Living Voice, was streamed on American Public Media's Choral Works Initiative with comments by Tesfa Wondemagegnehu. Composer-In-Residence: Lutheran Summer Music (July, 2015) During LSM Festival week, July 15th-19th, Linda's students presented a recital of their new compositions. In addition, several of Linda's works were performed, including the premiere of a new piece for clarinet, viola, and piano.
Composer-In-Residence: Partners in Praise Girls Choir (May and June) As composer in residence for Partners in Praise of Minneapolis, with conductor Julia Fahey, Linda presented composition workshops, tutored individual students, and created group compositions with the students, performed at their June 27th Bon Voyage concert. Linda has continued to work with PIP in the Fall of 2015 as they rehearse and premiere a new piece she has written for them, A Canticle of Blessing.
Anne Frank: A Living Voice (May, 2015) Performed in St. Gallen, Switzerland by the Jugenchor St. Gallen/St. Galler Singschule and the Manesse Quartett, conducted by Bernhard Bichler in the gorgeous Kirche St. Mangen. ASIAN PREMIERE: Anne Frank: A Living Voice, (April 23, 2015) Performed in South Korea by the Gwacheon City Women's Choir. The only professional women's choir in Korea, they were conducted by artistic director, Mr. Hee-churl Kim, in Gwacheon's 1,000 seat auditorium. The piece was performed on a concert to commemorate the first anniversary of the 2014 Korean Sewol ferry ship tragedy, in memory of the 304 people who died, many of whom were high school students.

WORLD PREMIERE: From Norway to America! (March, 28th, 2015) The concert included premieres of both original vocal and instrumental works. Highlights include settings of folk songs, composed for mezzo soprano Clara Osowski and tenor Gary Ruschman, with pianist, Franco Holder. A chamber ensemble of clarinet and strings performed Variations on a Norwegian Folk Tune, and singers from the University of Minnesota premiered a new chamber choral work. Anne Frank: A Living Voice (May, 2014) Presented by the Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival, in collaboration with the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh Holocaust Center; performed by the Chamber Choir of Pittsburgh School for the Choral Arts, and Members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

The Fable of Old Turtle (2014) Keith Bear, Native American Flutist with Linda Tutas Haugen, Narrator. In 2014 the piece received six additional performances, for a total of 68 performances since 2001! The orchestra concerts took place in Minnesota, Indiana, and Pennsylvania.
Transformations of Darkness and Light: Fundraising Campaign (February-March 2014) Linda completed a successful crowdsourcing campaign through Hatchfund, to purchase portable stands and shipping cases for 30 sets of concert wind chimes, used in the orchestral work, Transformations of Darkness and Light. The cases and stands allowed the piece to travel to Texas, where it was performed by the ASCAP Award Winning Laredo Philharmonic. The orchestra partnered with the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance, to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation. Thanks to the support of many, this piece is now able to travel around the world!
Minnesota State Arts Board Grant 2014 Announced in December, Linda was awarded an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board to study various forms of sung Norwegian Folk music. She will compose vocal and choral settings and collections of these tunes. She will also record and present concerts to increase awareness, accessibility, and performances of this music.
Free Workshop/Performance: Folk Instruments From Three Countries

You are invited to an April 28th Workshop/Performance event where folk instruments from three countries - Norway, Brazil and China, will be explored. Composer Linda Tutas Haugen will be speaking about traditional Norwegian folk music/instruments, focusing on the seljefloyte (willow flute) and Hardanger fiddle, and discussing ways to incorporate writing for folk instruments with standard instrumentation. New works for seljefloyte and Hardanger fiddle featuring expert traditional performers, Arna Rennan and Andrea Een, will be performed. Charles Asch, cello, and Robert Haugen, clarinet, will also be participating. Zeitgeist's Pat O'Keefe will lead an interactive presentation on Brazilian percussion, and composer Paul Dice will discuss traditional Chinese instruments using video to show authentic performances. This is an excellent opportunity to see and learn about music from these cultures, and to provide a starting point for the exploration of folk instruments. For composers, performers and ethnic music lovers!

EUROPEAN PREMIERE: Anne Frank: A Living Voice Anne Frank: A Living Voice was performed by the St. Gallen Singschule Youthchoir and the Carmina Quartett, Bernhard Bichler, conductor, August 30, 2013, St. Gallen, Switzerland. A quote from a letter from the young women in the choir: While singing the piece we have started to feel the emotions Anne Frank confessed to her diary. We all agree that your music is the perfect reflection of Annes fear on one hand and her deep wish for peace on the other.
